How to validate an INI file with the printer drivers

The easiest way to test the INI file configuration is to replace the default INI file for the already installed Printer Driver with the modified INI file(please see the Default INI files locations below), and Restore the Default Settings on the Device Settings tab for the Printer Driver.

The Restore Default Settings will load the settings from your INI file, and on the Printer Driver Printing Preferences you can check that the desired modifications are shown. Please see example below.

The Default INI files locations;

32 bit

C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Drivers\w32x86

C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Drivers\w32x86\3

64 bit

C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64

C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3

The INI file name is:

The INI file for the Monochrome X1 printer driver is BuMIniNT.ini

The INI file for the ColorPlus X1 printer driver is BuAiniNT.ini

The INI file for the PDF X1 printer driver is BuPiniNT.ini

If the printer driver does not find the INI file or the INI file contains incorrect values, the default printer settings will be applied. The default printer settings are hard coded in the printer driver.

Any change to the INI file after installation will have no effect on the printer driver until the system is rebooted or clicked on the “Restore defaults” bottom of the “Device Settings” Tab of the printer driver.

Sample how to change the output directory in the INI file

To change the default output directory in the INI file, open the file with Notepad, and search the following part;

OutputDirectory=<<USERPROFILE>>\Documents

The <<USERPROFILE>>\Documents is the current output directory. To change it do the steps below;

·         Modify the line; OutputDirectory=<<USERPROFILE>>\My Documents

·         Save the file to another location, and then overwrite the original INI file. See the default INI file locations above.

·         Go to the Start menu > Devices and Printers > right click on the Printer Driver > Printing Preferences > Device Settings tab and click to Restore Defaults.

·         Go to Filename Generation tab in the Printing Preferences, and check the Output Directory. It should be <<USERPROFILE>>\My Documents.
